Just Fckn Get On With It

Overcoming adversity and living life on your own terms.

Out now on Kindle and in paperback.

Introduction

Living with chronic illness or disability sucks. It can be frustrating, isolating and debilitating. As well as living with Multiple Sclerosis and being a wheelchair user, I have PTSD and survivor's guilt after witnessing a terrorist bombing in 2002. That's a bit of a trauma dump, but it doesn't end there. Two years ago, my daughter Imogen died.

You might think it would be unbearable. Sometimes it is. But despite the challenges, life is still worth living.

That's what this book is about: how to take control of your life and find ways to live it on your own terms, whatever's going on for you medically, physically or mentally.

What's inside

Inside, you'll find how to accept your limitations (and why pretending you don't have any is a bit bat shit), what to do when people don't get it, and how to make the most of whatever life throws at you. It's about living with trauma while knowing you are so much more than the things that have happened to you.

This isn't a victim narrative, and it isn't a self-help book full of toxic positivity. It's an honest account of how it's possible to go through awful things and still build a joyful, meaningful life, a life lived on your own terms.

It's just me being honest, sweary and sometimes funny.

About Nicky

Nicky Merrick is a writer, speaker and entrepreneur living with secondary progressive MS. She's a wheelchair user, was caught up in the Bali bombings in 2002, and her eldest daughter Imogen died in 2024. None of that has stopped her building a life she actually wants, on her own terms. Just Fckn Get On With It is the story of how.
